May-June joblessness up in 90 pct of metro areas

The Associated press reported today that mass unemployment through out the country is rising. Michigan reports the greatest increases in total unemployment reaching more than 15%. There are 450,000 workers out of work and receiving benefits. 600,000 new unemployment claims were filed since Obama took office. Even with 400 new government employees to handle the unemployment claims there are 100,000 people waiting for approval. It’s a daunting task.

The jobless claims are workers who could have been working in steel mills and coal mines shut down by government regulations. Recovery is made even more difficult then it was after WWII when factories were converted from making munitions to refrigerators and steel I-beams for new high-rise buildings.

Deindustrialization of the nation’s heavy industry may please the environmentalist, but it does not bode well for the national economy. Government mandates on the auto industry, forcing them to produce cars that were not demanded by the free market is at least in part responsible for the unemployment in the Motor City. Sweetheart Union deals for the UAW sanctioned by the Federal Government via the National Labor Relations Act also contributed to the demise of many jobs, and high taxes did not lessen the burden.
