H.R.2847: You will shortly hear of a new bill proposed by Congressional Democrats. They call it the “Jobs for Main Street Bill”. Typical of the misnomers which these bills carry, this bill does not create one private sector job. This should not be surprising since government can only destroy private sector jobs and cannot create them. Far from being a solution to big government and unemployment, this proposed bill creates more law enforcement officers, but not those you might expect. This bill creates police within the Department of Justice. Some of the money appropriated will go to study how better to transport Chinese goods over our highways. More money will be allocated to provide just the opposite of jobs. It will fund longer term unemployment benefits. The “Main Street Jobs” bill creates a new claim for discrimination if a bank refuses to loan money to farmers. Isn’t this like what happened to banks under Fannie May and Freddie Mac? I’m sure liberals/progressives understand this, but they are going to use this money to get reelected. All the money appropriated must be spent by September 30, 2010 just in time for the next election cycle so that Democrats can crow about all the Federal Money they brought to their districts. If you think any Republicans are going to be able to dip into these funds, then you haven’t studied FDR’s tactics in the 30’s. When the country under FDR was broke, and people were living in cardboard boxes he distributed stimulus money in the form of WPA and AAA projects to those of his Democrat allies for New Deal legislation. FDR was reelected by over 90% of the electoral vote. |
