| LINDER STATEMENT ON PASSAGE OF NATIONAL ENERGY TAX H.R. 2454, “The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 [ACES]” John Linder is a champion of conservative values and a valued member of the House of Representatives. He voted against mortgaging our children’s futures, against sending manufacturing jobs overseas, against crippling the hard working farming community, against starting a international trade was, and against driving our country deeper into economic despair. The Democrats and eight liberal Republicans in the House passed a draconian energy tax, primarily on the use of coal to manufacture Made-in-the-USA commodities. ACES is not legislation that will protect the environment or reduce America’s reliance on foreign oil. The so-called Cap-and-Trade of carbon credits which penalizes American manufactures and limits the amount of CO2 emissions is nothing more than a new and burdensome tax on every consumer of Made-in-the-USA products. Clean energy from hydroelectric and safe nuclear power plants are a reality and under utilized as a form of energy production. Scientists are now saying that clean coal technology is safe for the environment. The United States has more coal deposits capable of producing more energy more cheaply than all the oil deposits in the Middle East. Representative Linder supports energy independence by using existing environmentally safe and economical technologies, and he supports research to replace coal and oil with solar, wind and yet to be discovered sources of energy. His is a reasoned, scientifically proven safe approach that will not increase the cost of Made-in-the-USA products. Representative Linder supports the Republican plan for the efficient and safe use of current energy technologies. The Republican plan is a real investment in America’s future, and in furthering research to develop new forms of renewable energy. While the Democrats want to tax and penalize Made-in-America producers, the Republican plan will supply current needs for energy through the application of existing safe and economical methods of production. Speaker Nancy Palosi (D-CA) and other radical Democrats have passed an unnecessary and burdensome tax on every hard working American, but the fight is not over. Representative Linder has been at the helm of the ship of hope. He and other Conservative Republicans in Congress will guide us safely through the deep and treacherous, liberal waters of overspending, overtaxing, and punishing regulations that will flood and drown our economy. To stay afloat and to change the current course, Representative Linder and other conservatives in Congress need our support, like Georgia’s Representative Tom Price, and Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann from Minnesota. These are all good people who have our best interest at heart. They are all proponents of sound fiscal policies that are best for Americans first. Please contact Georgia’s other two Senators, Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss and tell them you are opposed to ACES massive energy tax.
