Georgiaright.com Where Conservatives Meet

From Reagan to Obama

“We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.”, proclaimed Democrat candidate Obama. He continued: “This is our time to turn the page on the policies of the past”. The new policies include government ownership of banks, de-facto control of corporations like General Motors, and now the takeover of private health insurance plans via the Government option, or Government Controlled Cooperatives.

President Obama promised to bring new energy and “new ideas” to the challenges we face. The concept of central government control of the means of production is not a new idea. It is a failed policy that will destroy the economy and the will of the people to work, as surely as it destroyed the USSR

President Obama is committed to destroying private healthcare, and reducing benefits for Seniors through a government takeover of healthcare. We should be reminded of President Reagan’s warning that government rationed medial care will require doctors to serve an equal number of patience. Then if a doctor wants to move to a certain city, and that city already has its quota of doctors, the doctor will be told he cannot live in that town, and will be assigned to a town where doctors are needed. Obviously it doesn’t challenge the intellect to realize that this type of government sponsored program will not only discourage bright individuals from entering the medical field, but will further bankrupt and economy.

President Obama promised jobs. Where are they? Where are the new factories? Will everyone be employed at low paying fast food jobs? What type of high paying employment is the Obama administration prepared to provide? They say “green jobs”. But they do not currently exist. When and if they do come into existence, by some accounts, each green job will put two individuals out of work; furthermore, thanks in part to environmental regulations, Democrat Party sponsored unions and high taxes, many heavy industry business can no longer operate profitably in the U.S. That means our economy is no longer based upon employment which generates commodities and contributes to the gross national product, but is surviving on debt accumulation piled so high that if it continues, the U.S. economy will be crushed under the weight of its own debt.

President Obama made a statement about the U.S. Constitution that for a professor of Constitutional Law is incredible. He stated that while the Constitution denies powers to government it “does not state what the State government or the Federal government must do on your behalf”. With all due respect to his Office and legal education, the Constitution embodied the idea that each individual has the God given right to determine his own destiny. In order for that right to bear fruit, the government must merely provide the equal protection of the law, provide for the security of the nation, and a common defense against our enemies, and government must provide an environment where laborers are able to earn a good living by producing goods and services that are in demand.

Government must allow for an environment where capital investment improves the means of production, lowering the price of commodities, and thereby increasing the purchasing power of the dollars earned in their creation.

President Reagan warned that when the government attempts to control the economy it must do so by controlling people and their property. Since taking office the Obama administration has demonstrated that it desires to control the economy by controlling the banks, corporations that are “too large to fail”, the Auto industry, and now the President wants to control the relationship between doctor and patient.

President Reagan stated that when a government starts out to control the economy it must do so by force and coercion. The President and Democrats in Congress want to limit oil company profits, and limit the amount of compensation paid to executives in the private sector. The Democrats have for years demanded costly modifications to private industry plants, demanded that employers pay more for labor than the market would allow, imposed high taxes on businesses, created Unions with such power that they ultimately contributed to the demise of the domestic auto industry, controlled the private insurance market through State Government regulations. Apparently State Government regulation of the insurance industry was not enough, the Obama administration now wants to nationalize the insurance regulators, and take over the entire industry. The list of government force and coercion is virtually endless.
