More and Higher Taxes To Pay For "free" government healthcare We already have universal healthcare that is less expensive then what the Democrats are proposing. High insurance rates are not due to excessive profit taking by insurance companies. The insurance industry has never enjoyed a free market economy. Each state has a regulator who tells every insurance company doing business in the state what they must cover. Fourteen states now have mandates that require insurance companies to cover infertility treatments, regardless of the insured’s desire to have this coverage included in the policy. A 60 year old woman covered by such a policy is paying for coverage that she has neither the desire to use, nor the ability to give birth to a child. Other mandated coverage that raises the cost of insurance include, massage therapy, obesity surgery, pastoral care, and wigs. Needle-phobic customers have policies that cover acupuncture, and teetotalers pay for drug addition coverage, just to mention a few. The National Center for Policy Analysis found that insurance rates are increased by as much as 30 percent due to government mandates. These policies are more properly called “universal healthcare”, not insurance policies. They are essentially prepaid medical care for every conceivable medical procedure. |
