Americans all need good healthcare the question is whether government or private enterprise can do it best. Insurance has always been a government enterprise. Every State Insurance Commissioner dictates policy terms and controls the premiums that insurance companies can charge. For many years these commissioners have required insurance companies to cover certain illnesses and most states provide coverage for pre-existing conditions. When you hear that 45 states do not require insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions, know that it is a half-truth. Only 14 states do not have a high risk pool to cover everyone. ie subsidized by private insurance industry. Universal Healthcare is not free. Everyone will be required to buy healthcare or go to jail. The bottom line is that government cannot cover everyone with Universal Healthcare without reducing benefits, printing money and increasing taxes substantially on everyone. Be careful for what you wish for. Adequate warning! |
