The permanent polar ice cap will disappear by 2040. The seas could be practically devoid of fish by 2048. Manhattan and Miami will be flooded by 2050. Go Green. Get Rich. Business 2.0 - Thursday, January / February 2007 Author: Chris Taylor Paul Kaihla Carleen Hawn Tom McNichol Michael Myser Sidra Durst Michal Lev-Ram Michael V. Copeland The proponents of man-made global warming should have to bear the burden of proof. I think we all need to see the evidence that such outlandish predictions have a basis in reality. For now, some intelligent people simply accept the mantra that CO2 emissions are contributing to global warming. Maybe if they were more open to opposing views, we wouldn’t be talking about prohibiting oil companies from drilling for domestic oil, and talking about making EXXON pay excess profit taxes. These taxes do not include contributions to withholding tax, taxes that the government levies on dividends which are paid with after tax dollars by the owners of the corporation. Yes the stockholders, they once paid a 40% tax on dividends, until Bush Sr. lowered it to 20%. That’s a whole lot of taxation, and that doesn’t include the $8 billion paid out to scrubbers to deal with emission standards. Exxon pays more taxes then it makes in profit. Exxon paid close to $3 in taxes ($2.69) for each $1 it earned in profits. But I bet not too many of those previously mentioned intelligent people would believe that statistic. Maybe this graph will help:
Not allowing oil companies to drill for oil on land has forced them to drill in the depths of the ocean floor. It’s not cheap; it has increased the cost of production by Exxon Mobil and BP by $15 billion in the past decade. Add that to the price of oil and subtract that from oil company profits. Also instead of a cheap drilling rig on land it costs 1B that’s “B” for billion to erect a rig to drill the ocean floor. I wonder how many intelligent people know these facts. And how many who do really care? My guess is probably not too many. At my last count there were 125,000 different religions denominations. I’d like to add one more and make it 125,001. Global warming has become a religion which is why scientific facts are not necessary to believers. There are other similarities between Christianity and Global Pollutionism . There is a great deal of disagreement on theology, but like religions cherry pick among opinions to create dogma, Pollutionists do the same. Why do so many intelligent people believe that global warming is man-made and we can stop it? If so many believe, doesn’t that make it so? Well there are billions of Christians worldwide so does that mean that the miracles of Jesus Christ, Noah’s Ark and the flood, Joana and the whale are also true? Think about it. If Adam and Eve were the only two people on earth, and Eve was make from Adam’s rib, and we didn’t actually evolve from a bunch of apes, then wouldn’t’ everyone have identical DNA? I’m thinking that a lot of intelligent people right now are agreeing with me. BUT I bet I can find a point of disagreement with a goodly number of them if I sate: We don’t really know what causes global warming. The fact is that the climate change on Mars is identical to that on Earth for as many years as climatologists have been keeping score. In fact we now call it “climate change”, because for the past decade or more the planet has been cooling down. But no bother, just like religious zealots, we have an explanation -“Global warming causes global cooling” So what’s the bottom line? Say that Exxon causes global warming, and make Exxon the equivalent of the Devil. Both need to be destroyed and it’s going to be much easier to destroy something like Exxon because it actually exists, while the Devil, on the other hand, may be a figment of the imagination. Perhaps man-made global warming is such a figment? The apostles of global warming are now writing the next gospel according to Al Gore – cap-and-trade, which should be entitled “The Energy Apocalypse”. |
